Course Description: This first year experience (FYE) aims to construct a strong foundation for collegiate success and personal growth by cultivating connections between students, faculty, Student Affairs, and campus life programming. The course explores the physical, emotional, and social considerations for successful transition to college. Competencies essential for interprofessional collaborative practice are highlighted, including knowledge of health profession roles and responsibilities, communication, teamwork, and foundational skills. Through discussions, assignments, and self-reflection, students examine their own development as learners and as individuals. This course is open to students in the major of applied exercise science, athletic training, dental hygiene, health wellness and occupational studies, nursing, nutrition, public health, social work, and pre-pharmacy.

My description of this course: This class that is a requirement for freshman who are in a health profession major, or who are on a track to go to graduate school for a health profession. Everyday there are new lessons, and different things to take away from each. There is a lot of discussion amongst the people in the class, and a lot of group work is done. Over the course of the semester, different people in groups had to read different selections from a book titled, “This I Believe”, and had to ask questions and elicit responses out of the other group members to start conversation and discussion. A lot of the class is also spent going over the different duties and jobs people in the health industry have to do. Such health professions include: Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Dental Hygienist, Nutritionist, and many others.
