In English 110 taught by Dr. Cripps, at the University of New England, there are several learning outcomes that students are required to meet by the conclusion of the semester. One of those outcomes, the 5th one specifically, has to deal with citations, and document work. According to the class outcome list, one must be able to, “Document their work using appropriate conventions (MLA)”, which means that a student must be able to cite their sources correctly, with in-text citations, block quotes, ETC… From the first draft of the first paper to the final draft of the third paper, there was a huge amount of improvement. I started off in this class with no knowledge of how to correctly cite sources within texts, and it showed in the grades that I received. Learning how to embed quotes, and knowing what to include in the parenthetical citations, greatly improved my abilities in documenting my work.
